GREEN CAMPUS INITIATIVE

Several unique aspects of AIT have fostered the commitment for sustainability: a multinational, multi-cultural community focus, a nature friendly environment and a campus that continually strives to achieving innovations & setting new benchmarks in sustainability. The "AIT: A Sustainability Laboratory" is an initiative to promote sustainability and to transform AIT into a "green campus" by inspiring the campus residents to learn and adopt lifestyle that are well suited to the regional socio-economic context.

Promoting the production and consumption of comparatively inexpensive and chemical-residue free vegetables is an important strategy for combating nutritional deficiency.

Energy is an essential element in achieving sustainability and by adapting sustainable energy practices in the campus, not only does it foster a sustainable environment for students to learn and develop their capabilities.

AIT provides on-campus dormitory to its students and housing to its employees. Cycling and walking to study and work has become very convenient and popular for those who live on campus.

AIT, with a population of over 4,000 inhabitants, generates toxic and hazardous waste of domestic origin. To address this issue, an appropriate collection, management and disposing system for hazardous and toxic waste generated on AIT campus is developed in order to standardize the processes and effectively.

Water body such as a moat as pond is a vital element in AIT activity. Monitoring of those water level and quality is essential for flood management and reuse of water, wastewater assessment, etc.

It is well known that wetlands present an excellent opportunity for betterment of the environment, and at AIT, it will always be an integral part of the campus with its natural environment.
